Our hands provide the main source of tactile information and our primary tool for manipulating the environment. As the hands move through space, the brain must constantly keep track of their location. This talk will examine the consequences of placing the hands across the body midline (i.e., placing the right hand on the left side of the body). Profound behavioural deficits are discussed and some intriguing brain imaging results.
David Shore directs the Multisensory Perception Laboratory and is an active member in the International Multisensory Research Forum. His research examines the impact of attention on the integration of signals presented to different sensory systems. This research has implications for designing real-world human-computer interfaces and consideration of how our conscious mind organizes and understands the external world.
