Teamwork is critical for achieving success in risky, complex, and demanding work environments. In industries such a s aviation, nuclear power, spaceflight, and healthcare, the human element can be both a key element of success, as well as a point of failure that can lead to disaster. Using tools such as high fidelity simulation, teams can practice how they respond to crisis and effective strategies to improve team performance under stress can be developed.
David Musson is a physician and social psychologist in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University where he is the Director for the Centre for Simulation Based Learning. He received his MD form the University of Western Ontario and his PhD in Social and Personality Psychology form the University of Texas at Austin. His graduate worked looked at selection and team performance in aviation, spaceflight and medicine.
